For the following procedures, we will diagnose your condition and then refer you to a surgeon or specialized physician for treatment:

  • Inter-Body Fusion (IBF)
  • Intraoperative Monitoring (IOM) of the Nerves

  • Lumbar Micro Endoscopic Discectomy
  • PLIF: Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion

Prepare for your Treatment

The following information is for reference only. If you have lost the Pre OP and Post OP instructions for your procedure, please call to verify that the following instructions apply.

 

Before Your Procedure

  • DO NOT eat or drink anything 7 hours prior to your procedure.
  • IF YOU EAT OR DRINK YOU RISK HAVING YOUR PROCEDURE RESCHEDULED.
  • Bring a driver. (If you are going to have sedation.)
  • Take ½ of your normal insulin.
  • Take your High Blood Pressure medicine and/or Heart medicine and any pain medicine.
  • STOP Blood thinners, Plavix, Coumadin, Warfarin, Aspirin 325mg, Garlic, Ginko and Fish Oil 7 days prior to procedure.

 

 

After Your Procedure

Anesthesia – If you have a General Anesthetic or Local Anesthetic with Sedation:

  • DO NOT drink alcoholic beverages, including beer, for 24 hours. Alcohol enhances the effects of anesthesia and sedation.
  • DO NOT drive a motor vehicle, operate machinery, or power tools for 24 hours after the procedure.
  • DO NOT make important decisions or sign important papers for 24 hours after the procedure.

 

Diet

  • Resume normal diet as tolerated.

 

Fever

  • If your temperature is greater than 101º F, notify your physician.

 

Activity

  • Rest at home with moderate activity as tolerated.
  • No lifting of heavy objects, weighing more than 10 pounds, for 2 days.
  • Resume normal activities as tolerated on the second day with weight lifting restrictions observed.
